Shahied Osman brings more than four decades of leadership, service, and practical experience to the Cape Caddy Association. His passion for supporting caddies is rooted in his love for golf and his belief that every caddy deserves dignity, opportunity, and a secure future.
Although he has been playing golf for over 16 years, it was through meeting caddies at golf courses across Cape Town that Shahied became aware of the challenges many of them face. He recognised that many worked without stable employment, had little understanding of labour rights, and lacked protection for themselves and their families.
Having spent over 40 years in the hospitality industry, including 30 years as a Maintenance Manager, Shahied used his knowledge and experience to assist many caddies with practical advice and guidance. His willingness to help earned him the trust and respect of the caddying community.
Milnerton Golf Club, his favourite course, became the place where he first connected with what was then known as Monday School, the organisation that would eventually become the Cape Caddy Association. Six years ago, he was nominated by the members to serve on the committee and gladly accepted the responsibility.
Working alongside Chairperson IJ, Shahied played a leading role in drafting the Cape Caddy Association Constitution—a milestone that brought structure, accountability, and clear direction to the organisation. As Secretary, he has been instrumental in strengthening the Association’s administration, ensuring that important processes are followed and that the organisation continues to grow on a solid foundation.
Today, Shahied remains committed to serving the caddying community with integrity, dependability, and compassion.
“I believe every caddy deserves the opportunity to gain knowledge, improve their standard of living, and protect their dignity. Together, we can build a stronger future for every caddy.”
